This is the same child I had !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! with two weeks ago. My wife points out that this is the only live, in-person child that I have any interaction with these days. Works for me! Meanwhile, we await our eldest daughter’s impending birth spasm; stay tuned...

She's good. That is some fine drawing. I'd assume she watches a lot of anime.

She buys novels that have no words but only anime pictures. Like novella-length comic books.

Our family volunteered a the food bank yesterday, and I ended up assembling cardboard boxes with another mom and son while my own family did a different task. The boy played trombone in high school, and the three of us talked about that, and band, and current events. No disrespect to my family, but it was nice to talk to other people for a change!

No disrespect to my family...
They’d probably say the same about you.

No words? That is a little strange. I thought all graphic novels had words. You kinda need to read at a young age. At least she is interested in books and drawing a guess. Well, graphic novels.
Maybe my lens is warped because I was reading the biggest and thickest books I could find at 10. Including some of an in herited collection of 1900-1920 or so adventure books. That probably explains a lot, doesn’t it?

They probably would. And I wouldn’t even be insulted by it.

I was a strong reader as well, though not much today.

I tend to read less when I'm away from the home more so it fits that I've gotten back into Sherlock Holmes.

It’s great to have people to interact with like that. Our neighbors across the street are pretty much the only people we “hang out” with from each other’s lawns. Sometimes I just sit there on the grass as our toddler runs around chatting with their 8 year old daughter for a good 30-60 minutes. Not something I would’ve ever done in “normal” times, but I think we both get a lot more out of it than we would otherwise expect.

We’ve got little kids living on both sides and behind us and we love hearing them when we’re in the yard. We also love seeing so many people out walking around. Then again, I must recognize out that we are socially stationed so that we can enjoy these things. Not wealthy, but a couple of educators who’ve kept our jobs so far and have a home to enjoy. Not so with lots of others.

We get frustrated too, but are constantly reminding ourselves how thankful we are to have a spacious home, our own backyard, and pleasant neighbors to chat with every now and then. We’ve even gotten to know a few folks who’ve walked by our house that we otherwise probably wouldn’t have gotten to know. Small things, but humans are social creates and we are thankful for every bit of socialization we get.
An retired lady down the street had mentioned to my wife a while ago that they were out of some form of cleaning alcohol and couldn’t find any at the stores for coun ter top cleaning purposes - my wife had an extra bottle lying around and dropped it at her doorstep ages ago. Yesterday the lady came by and had dropped off a vase of flowers from her garden for my wife, presumably as a delayed thank you since we haven’t seen them since - without even knowing that it was her birthday. That touched her more than anything my wife has received in many years. So many shitty things about the current situation, but definitely making us focus more on the simpler things in life too which is a good thing.

Sewing in a silver lining. I’ve been married 30 years and I’ve seen more of my wife in the past four months than probably in the past four years. I’ve had time to stop and take a good look and get reacquainted. Marriage is a wonderful institution IMO. I’m grateful for mine. I hope that comment about social standing didn’t come across as preachy; I was only intending to count aloud my blessings, which are many, friendships on Oppo not least among them.

Didn’t come off as preachy at all! Time to log off for the day and enjoy the evening with family. Cheers!
